Introduction
Two and half years ago, March 2023 to be exact, I wrote an article about two distinct type of marriages. I am now using the material from my article then to write a Poem/Poetry about these two types of marriage.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I have enjoyed presenting it to you!
Of Marriage, Two Distinct Designs
A journey starts, a life's great art,
The choosing
of a counterpart.
By culture,
heart, or family's hand,
Two paths to
union cross the land.
The first,
arranged, a thoughtful chart,
Where families
help to play their part.
The second,
born of passion's plea,
When two souls
meet and choose to be.
But mists of
myth these paths enshroud,
So let us
speak the truth aloud,
Of unions made
by choice or guide,
With nuance,
casting myths aside.
The Myths We
Hear, The Tales We're Told
A common myth, both sharp and cold,
That arranged
love is forced and sold.
That consent's
a word unheard, unknown,
A seed of will
that can't be sown.
But truth
reveals a different sight,
Most have the
power, and the right,
To meet a soul
and gently say,
"This is,
or is not, my true way."
They say that
love-match romance gleams,
The only
source of heartfelt dreams.
That
planned-out pairings lack the fire,
The breathless
hope, the keen desire.
Yet in a love
match, romance starts,
In planned
ones, it can grow in hearts.
A slow-burn
ember, warm and deep,
While
whispered promises they keep.
A third
belief, a fading thought,
Arranged is
old, a practice caught
In bygone
eras, lost to time,
A relic of an
ancient rhyme.
Yet see it
change with modern grace,
Where choice
and time are given space.
On screens we
watch new couples meet,
An old
tradition, bittersweet.
And last, the
tale that's often spun,
That love's
free choice is better won.
That its
success is guaranteed,
A stronger,
more resilient breed.
But triumph
rests on common ground,
On trust and
care, where peace is found.
And love can
fail where bonds are weak,
While planned
devotion learns to speak.
The Truth
Unveiled, The Light We See
Arranged affairs can help to be
A way to weave
a family tree.
Not just two
souls, but clans unite,
A web of
support, a guiding light.
A strength in
hardship, comfort near,
To vanquish
doubt and calm all fear.
But love's
free choice may find it hard,
When culture's
walls hold it barred.
A different
faith, a different name,
Can draw
disapproval, fan a flame
Of family
discord, social strife,
That cuts a
bond just like a knife.
Arranged can
bring a steady hand,
A stable place
on which to stand.
With status,
wealth, and goals aligned,
A shared
foundation you can find.
A sense of
peace, a sheltered bay,
To keep life's
harshest storms at bay.
Yet matches
made of love impart
A freedom of
the sovereign heart.
The pure
autonomy to find
The one who
fits your soul and mind.
A deep
fulfillment, yours to own,
A path you
chose and walked alone.
Arranged can
be a chance to find
A way to grow
and stretch the mind.
When different
worlds and views connect,
You learn new
truths and new respect.
A broader
world begins to bloom,
And
understanding fills the room.
And love's own
match, a truth so clear,
Brings
feeling's comfort, holds it dear.
That deep
connection, heart to heart,
Provides a
strong and vital part
Of wellness,
strength when trials rise,
Reflected in a
partner's eyes.
The Keys to
Make a Union Last
No matter how the die is cast,
These truths
will help your love hold fast.
Let honest
words be freely sown,
For in
communication, love is grown.
Respect the
worlds from which you came,
And find the
beauty in each name.
Build future
dreams you both can see,
A shared
design for what will be.
Have friends
and kin, a trusted guide,
A strong
support to stand beside.
And tend your
health, in mind and soul,
To keep your
spirit strong and whole.
Conclusion's
Verse
So one path starts with whispered vows,
The other,
with familial boughs.
Each has its
trials, its reward,
A different
key, a different chord.
Success is not
in how it starts,
But in the
joining of two hearts.
With trust and
grace, a common view,
A love that's
honest, strong, and true.
For in the
end, when all is done,
All thriving
marriages are one.
